From Insight to Action: AI Literacy in Motion Across 500+ Educators

Brett Christie, Ph.D.
VP, Educational Innovation

We’re excited to announce that more than 500 educators have signed up for the free AI Literacy Micro-credential for Educators. This milestone is more than just a number. It reflects a growing commitment across higher education to better understand the role of AI in teaching and learning. Educators are not only asking how AI will impact the future, but actively shaping that future through thoughtful experimentation and practical implementation.

Across disciplines, roles, and institutions, educators are engaging in this micro-credential to build understanding, experiment responsibly, and lead with intention. It’s a journey that begins with curiosity and ends with practical action.

A Self-Paced Journey That Moves Ideas Into Action

The AI Literacy Micro-credential is designed to help educators go beyond theory. It includes four structured modules, each ending in a Summative Activity where participants reflect on key insights and develop a realistic action plan tailored to their teaching context.

These activities encourage thoughtful integration of AI tools, ethical awareness, and student-centered innovation. Many participants have already completed one or more modules, and their reflections offer a compelling snapshot of what it looks like to learn, lead, and adapt in an AI-enhanced educational landscape.

What Educators Are Saying: Reflections and Action Plans Module 1: Learning About AI’s Role in Education

Educators are beginning their journey with a mix of excitement and concern. Many reflected on how quickly AI tools are evolving and how important it is to understand their capabilities and risks.

What they’re doing next:

  • Testing AI for grading support or formative feedback
  • Using AI to generate discussion prompts or assignment drafts
  • Clarifying expectations for AI use in course syllabi

Module 2: Reimagining Assessment in the Age of AI

Traditional tests and essays are being reexamined. Educators are thinking about how to make assessment more meaningful, transparent, and resistant to simple AI misuse.

What they’re doing next:

  • Replacing high-stakes tests with multi-step, process-focused assignments
  • Integrating peer review to support critical thinking and shared feedback
  • Guiding students to use AI as a planning or revision tool, not a shortcut

Module 3: Making AI-Enhanced Learning Inclusive

This module sparked strong responses about accessibility, equity, and inclusion. Educators acknowledged both the risks and the opportunities AI presents in these areas.

What they’re doing next:

  • Exploring tools that support multilingual learners or students with disabilities
  • Auditing course materials and activities for inclusivity
  • Including student voice in shaping classroom AI norms

Module 4: Growing as a Critically Reflective AI Educator

The final module brought many ideas full circle. Educators spoke about the need to model ethical, thoughtful AI use and to stay informed as the technology continues to evolve.

What they’re doing next:

  • Joining or forming AI-focused peer learning groups
  • Tracking their AI use in a reflection journal or dashboard
  • Advocating for clear campus guidance and responsible policy

Local Conversations Are Growing Too

While many participants are completing the micro-credential independently, several institutions are taking the next step and building community around it. Through our free Campus Cohort Kit, campuses are supporting their own local learning communities by facilitating structured discussions and sharing insights across departments.

These cohort-based conversations are helping bring AI literacy from the individual level to the institutional level, turning professional development into campus-wide momentum.

The Path Ahead

The first 500 educators have shown that AI literacy is more than a trend. It is a critical skill set that can be cultivated through intentional learning, reflective practice, and inclusive teaching strategies. Whether you are just starting out or already testing new AI-informed approaches, this micro-credential offers a space to grow, connect, and lead. Join us in building a future where AI supports, rather than replaces, the human experience of education.
